Freshwaters Charity Shop

What happens when you combine a passion for changing the world, enthusiasm for the work of Samaritan's Purse and an entrepreneurial streak? You get Chris and Glenis Kounnas! 12 months ago in their hometown of Keighly, Leeds, Chris and Glenis created an innovative way of raising funds for Biosand water filters that help provide clean water to people in the poorest parts of the world.

When Chris and Glenis decided to set up a charity shop to raise money for Turn On The Tap, they didn't quite envision that in just 12 months with the help of their team of passionate volunteers, they'd turn a derelict shop into a thriving local business. With a stock room in abundance and a growing customer base, they've raised a startling £15,000. This equates to 400 water filters which will help to transform over 2,000 lives, a remarkable achievement!

The great thing about the Freshwaters project is it meets both the physical and spiritual needs of their local community. The team is passionate about helping their customers with whatever needs they have. They offer support, prayer and advice. As a result of their efforts 3 people have become part of the Christian faith following visits to the Fresh Waters shop. This fact is a testament to their genuine love for people and Christ.

In July, Luke (at 18 one of the younger members of the volunteer team) will be travelling to Uganda on a Samaritan's Purse trip to help install bio-filters he helped raise the money for. Luke's willingness to travel with Samaritan's Purse, is a reflection the energy, spirit and vision of this incredible team of people.
